Netflix, an American media service provider was launched in India with plans at Rs. 500, Rs. 650 and Rs. 800 per month. Now, Netflix is testing weekly plans for select users in India, which start for as low as Rs 65 per week. This new Rs 65 weekly subscription will offer individual viewing only on mobile devices with SD content. This means users will only be able to access Netflix’s content through their smartphones and tablets and neither on laptops, PCs nor on TVs. But this can be useful for people who keep travelling regularly and do not want to take monthly plans.
Overall, Netflix is working on 4 new weekly plans in the country. Other then this plan there is also a Rs 125 Basic plan, Rs 165 Standard plan and Rs 200 Premium plan. The Basic plan is for SD only, the Standard is for HD and Premium for 4K. According to a few reports, Netflix is also planning to be testing a mobile-only monthly plan for a starting price of Rs. 250 per month. Reportedly, this will have similar benefits as the basic weekly plan.
In India, we have other streaming services like Amazon Prime, Hotstar and few others which are priced cheaper than Netflix. So, maybe that’s how Netflix is looking to attract as many customers as possible in India.
As of now, the new weekly plan is showing for a few selected users only. Although, the company is expected to make an official announcement if the plans are rolled out for everyone in the future.
